I hear from a lot of vendors and solution providers when they are hiring. The one thing we hear over and over again is that their prospects MUST have channel experience. That makes sense, right? It’s a different world with different goals. Even in a marketing capacity it’s important that a team member knows how to market to a partner or knows how to build resources to help a partner market to an end-customer. Are you possibly overlooking people who may have similar experience but not in the IT channel?
Here are a few notes for finding the ideal candidates that with or without channel experience could help you drive a successful channel.
Leverage LinkedIn Groups
There are a lot of LinkedIn Groups out there specifically for channel professionals. Posting open positions to these groups alerts your target candidates to the new opportunity whether they’re looking or not.
Pay Per Click?
When posting a job, LinkedIn allows you to pay to have that job appear when people with your ideal title are online. I wouldn’t spend a ton on this, but certainly posting it for a couple of weeks and paying a dollar or two per click might get you in front of the right target.
Creative Team Building
Are you sure you need a full-time person? There are a lot of great contractors and consultants out there who can do that one thing or manage that one project and enable you to get that much more for your money and not be held to a longer term employee.
Whatever your search, we’re always happy to spread the word either anonymously or on our social. Send over a job description or shoot me a note directly heather@channelmavenconsulting.com.
