CMCtv Episode: Women in Technology and Leadership

Written by Heather K. Margolis | August 23, 2019

Women in leadership roles have a ton to think about -- from insane travel schedules to speaking events and meetings with Partners, we’re pulled in a million different directions before we even make it home to our families at night.

But the work-life balancing act that so many women in technology perform also brings unique perspectives and insights to conversations about leadership, especially in the tech world.

From CompTIA’s ChannelCon at Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Heather K. Margolis and Tina Gravel, Sr. VP of Global Channels & Alliances at Cyxtera discuss everything from work-life balance and leadership to organizations that support women in tech and Channel Partner enablement:

Interested in learning more about opportunities for women in tech? Check out these great resources:

  • TechGirlz: An outstanding organization that empowers girls to be technology leaders.
  • Black Girls CODE: A community organization that aims to increase the number of women of color in the digital space by empowering girls of color ages 7 to 17 to become innovators in STEM fields, leaders in their communities, and builders of their own futures through exposure to computer science and technology.
  • “I have a Dream” Foundation: Empowers children from under-resourced communities to succeed in school, college, and career.
  • African American Women in Technology Meetup: Find WIT meetup groups around the world and start meeting up with the ones near you.
  • Everyday Superheroes: Women in STEM Careers: A great book to encourage younger girls to pursue STEM education and careers.
  • MotherCoders: A network dedicated to expanding the tech talent pool by activating women with college degrees and work experience who are ready to contribute -- mothers.
  • This article from Essence Magazine dovetails nicely when Tina and I speak about double minorities and finding tech jobs outside of the typical "coding in a dark room" stereotypes we might think of. Check out the video as well. We love Michele Hines of Mary Kay talking about being in a STEAM role in a non-STEAM industry.
