Using Flipboard for Channel Marketing Success

Written by Heather K. Margolis | November 05, 2013

What? Another platform? But I just figured out that Pinterest is kind of a waste of time for the channel. Okay, lay it on me, what’s Flipboard?

Flipboard is both an Apple and Android app that allows you to visually search and gather information that is most

interesting to you. The user can create personalized Flipboards with all the compiled articles. If you stumble across an article on a website and want it in your Flipboard, you can click the “+flip it” bookmark and then simply add to your account. From a business use perspective, this is a great opportunity for vendors to create a Flipboard in lieu of their usual newsletter or to help partners create a Flipboard about a solution.

eBooks have been popular for the past 6 years though actually making an eBook can seem overwhelming. Flipboard allows you to create a professional looking, online, publication very simply using your tablet or smart phone.

All use cases are still being figured out as illustrated by this post on Venture Beat. One example of a great use of this app by a solution provider is here in this Oracle DBA Flipboard.

Even though we’ve yet to figure out the best uses for Flipboard Channel Maven definitely sees the benefit and finds Flipboard a much cleaner B2B application than Pinterest. Here are some pointers when putting together a Flipboard for your audience whether partners or end customers:

Keep it on Topic
The beauty of Flipboards being really easy to create is that you can create multiple boards about different topics. This will help you better engage a very targeted audience.

Identify your Audience
Identify your audience in your Flipboard so they know it’s relevant to them and are more likely to share it with like-minded prospects. One benefit to an online magazine is that it can more easily be shared. So what’s better than telling your readers who else should read it?

Launch it!
Another benefit to Flipboard being so easy to use is that you can launch pretty easily. I tend to hem and haw and get overwhelmed with eBooks (I’ve been working on my last one for 6 months!). When you have the Flipboard and you know it’s good, launch that bad boy!

Since we’re still kind of playing with the best use cases of Flipboard we would LOVE to hear how others of you are using them. Any vendors using this instead of a newsletter? Or as an eBook partners can change and leverage? If you’d rather not comment publicly, please email me.
