CMCtv Episode 22: Four Tips to Building a Successful Dispersed Team

Written by Channel Maven | September 17, 2018

As many of you know, we recently transitioned our team to a predominantly remote work environment. It’s gone surprisingly well and the time spent preparing and planning made all the difference. Emily Supernavage, Director Channel Marketing, joins Heather K. Margolis to share ways our team stays productive while working remote:

Why move to a dispersed team model

Studies show that over 50% of today’s workforce can feasibly work remote and that dispersed teams can be more productive thanks to less distractions, lack of commute, and ease of creating a balanced work-life.

How to keep from getting distracted

Kids, pets, spouse, laundry - there’s a lot to do at home and it’s not always easy to separate work from home when they’re co-located.

  • Maintain a work readiness routine: Wake up, take a shower, and dress for success; act as if you’re going to work and keep that mindset.
  • Designate a space: Wherever you’re located ensure the space is as organized and clean as it would be if you were in an office environment.
  • Take breaks: It’s easy to work non-stop, all day. Take a timeout to stretch, have a bite to eat, or get some fresh air - take a walk!
  • At the end of the day: Close your laptop and commit to separating work time from personal.

As employers, how do you ensure productivity?

Working remote lacks the natural conversation and rapport between co-workers. It’s important to maintain contact and alignment to prevent roadblocks. We use video calls for team and internal meetings, collaboration tools to stay organized, and meet live a few times a year at our Boulder headquarters.

Working remote has been a great experience for us. If you have questions or want to share your team’s remote working strategies contact us, we’d love to chat!
